take me lightly
Virtual installation · Private last words from discarded 3D primitives
take me lightly was made for Wretched Light Industry, a collaborative virtual world comprised of 33 environments made by emerging digital artists, magicians, jammers, worlders and dreamers from all over our globe. Created in response to the lack of opportunities facing new graduates, this digital map of environments unites emerging artists from all over the world. Cobbled together by Benjamin Hall and Jay Darlington — funded by Creative Scotland and hosted by the Serving the People initiative. Wander freely around our sunny isle; there might be mazes, offices, sea serpents, sheep, shrines, forests and more.
take me lightly reflects me in the midst of a storm figuring out how to accept/reject the non-affordances we aren’t vulnerable to as non-participants of the un-designed un-curated un-vetted experiences nervously hovering at the fringes of our lives.
phew.
It was hammered into shape at a point where I would perform as an advocate for interfaces that were designed to hurt you unexpectedly — building on top of "at your service" and an altar to media-sama.
You enter a 'bound' space. Entrance/exit/portal is in the centre, you see discarded 3D primitives strewn about. Dying last words, before they were deleted, written on them. Papers on the floor admit that the texture they're printed on is recycled. And messages to Ben, where I panic.
All of it is a byproduct of not being sure I could build the thing, which ended up being the thing built. :v
Click to focus on the render, Esc to escape out of the render. WASD to move around. You might drift around since the build was calibrated for a system that doesn't run on the browser. (I'm not planning on reinstalling Unity again to fix all this.)
